Well, this week was interesting to say the least. After posting a nice loss last week, I then abruptly gained 2 pounds overnight and for no reason that I could point to or come up with! I had to work really hard to get them back plus 1, so that I lost a total of 1 pound this week. Makes me discount the loss of last week - perhaps it wasn't a loss at all. But no matter, as I am able to say I lost a pound. And over the 2 week period, I lost 3.4 pounds. It just takes me awhile for me to lose anyway. And I can say that before on other diets, I would have truly been tempted to chuck it all and start overeating again. A self-defeating attitude, as I well know, and can at least see that in retrospect!
I truly am settling into this way of eating - lifestyle change is what I call it. I think that I can eat this way for a long time if needed. I don't even get that hungry anymore, and when I do eat, it lasts me for quite awhile before I get hungry again. I have had the last 5 days off, and have had the opportunity to walk all of them, and it is quite exhilarating. I don't think I've ever said that before! LOL - Becky liking to get out and walk for an hour of all things! And tomorrow, as long as it stops raining, I will be able to walk again. Or maybe just walk in the rain, who knows? There's always the elliptical downstairs, but I really don't want to go that route. So boring, just standing in one place...
Becky on Dukan
I have been overweight for most of my adult life & it really stinks! I am determined to get this weight off & be healthy too. After losing 25lbs & getting stuck, I found the Dukan Diet in a magazine that touted it as the "New French Atkins". I checked it out on the internet, saw that it incorporated many healthy habits & decided to give it a shot. I lost 6 lbs in Attack, & 15 lbs total the first month. That works for me!
My journey
The Dukan method is simple and concise. If you follow the instructions, you WILL lose weight at a consistent pace.
I can do this with God's help!
Check out my posts and maybe find a kindred spirit here:
Attack Phase - rapid weight loss while eating from a list of 72 pure proteins+1 1/2 tbsp oat bran daily+fat free dairy
Cruise Phase - consistent weight loss at a slower pace adding in 28 different vegetables (oat bran upped to 2 tbsp daily)
Consolidation Phase - after you lose all your excess weight, fruits, cheese & whole grain breads are added back in, even 2 meals a week where you eat anything you want.
Stabilization Phase - for life with only a few rules to follow-Pure Protein Thursdays, 3 tbsp oat bran daily, walk daily & forget elevators/escalators exist while eating what you want
In all phases, one is allowed to eat as much of anything allowed of protein & vegetables as is desired. No calorie counting, no measuring, no weighing of food. It's that simple!
I can do this with God's help!

Weigh in for Week 6 on Dukan
I have lost 2.4 pounds this week! That is about average for me. Here is the rundown of the first weeks:
Week 1 (on Attack) 6.8 pounds
Week 2 (started Cruise) 2.0
Week 3 1.0 Don't know what happened, but it all evened out in the next week :)
Week 4 5.0
Week 5 2.2
Week 6 2.4
I have lost 40 pounds total now (21 on Atkins, and 19 on Dukan). THAT SOUNDS GREAT! 42 more to go to reach my goal. One more pound, & I am halfway there!
I am feeling so good about this diet that I went through my closet yesterday & cleared out all the fat clothes. Ok, but yes I am holding onto all the winter sweaters. Sweaters look good baggy, & I figure that next winter I will need an even smaller size (I had sure better!) so will manage with what I have this year, or at least for now.
6 bags of clothes went to a local church's clothes closet. And my closet looks great too!
I am having lots of fun wearing clothes that I couldn't get into a few months back, so am very grateful for those moments. I even sat down at the sewing machine & took in the hips & legs of a couple pairs of pants, so will be able to wear them for a bit longer.
I'm not sure why someone didn't think of this diet before, & even less sure of exactly why the combination of lean meat, non-fat dairy & oat bran works, but my hat's off to you Dr Pierre Dukan! I guess if someone doesn't like meat, then the diet is not so satisfying, but I love going to a restaurant & being able to eat off the menu without feeling like I totally bombed. Yes, I do have to ask them not to put butter on the veggies & the meat must be lean, but it's do-able almost anywhere.
It's back to work with Dukan in hand tomorrow. So easy!

Back to Work
I went back to work today after having the last 5 days off. I work 12 hour shifts (11a-11p), 3 days a week, so my days off are nice and all in a row! Well, actually, I usually have 6 days off together, but I traded a day last week with the nurse who works the other 2 weekdays that I don't. It's a great life!
Getting back into the rhythm of working is nice, and I also go back to Pure Protein days when I am working. I have a feeling that the folks at work think I never eat my veggies anymore, but that isn't the case. I just want my Protein + Vegetable days to fall on my weekends (plus Monday) so that I can go out to eat whenever I feel like it. I don't cook alot anymore, and my daughter enjoys eating out too, so we usually end up eating out a couple of nights during my time off.
It might sound like Pure Protein days are boring, but I truly enjoy them! I am a meat lover, so it's not a problem for me. I enjoy grilling, and usually keep some grilled chicken breast or sirloin steak in the fridge to eat whenever I am hungry.
That's another thing about this diet. There really is no urge to eat when I am not hungry. Not so in my former life of carb stuffing. For me, carbs(starches) have the effect of making me want more, or another taste of something along the same line. It's a horrible treadmill to get caught on. I am so glad that I found this Dukan way of eating!
Here's a typical day of eating Pure Protein:
Breakfast
cold sliced chicken breast or 2 soft-boiled eggs
bowl of Splenda-sweetened fat free yogurt or cottage cheese
Lunch
sliced lean meat (chicken or steak usually)
sugar-free gelatin with a dollop of Splenda-sweetened fat free yogurt
(gelatin is pure protein)
Snack
6 mini oat bran muffins
bowl of Splenda-sweetened fat free yogurt
Supper
ground beef cooked with taco seasonings (I let the water cook down until there is still a "sauce" remaining)
or sliced meat again, or a stew
sugar-free gelatin mixed with several spoonfuls of Splenda-sweetened fat free yogurt
Snack
meat/egg/any legal protein or
cottage cheese or yogurt
Sounds like I eat a lot of yogurt, and I will readily admit that I love the taste and texture of the greek yogurt. It is almost decadent! When I first bought it, it tasted so good I had to go back to the refrigerator and make sure that I had not accidentally bought the whole milk version. It's that good! I use the Fage brand and have no inclination to go looking for another...
I am starting to post some of my recipes on here, so check those out too if you want to.
BTW, I plan to only post my pounds lost once a week so I won't be boring you with a daily weigh-in. Mondays will do quite nicely.

Start at the beginning
I feel like I want to attempt this even though I'm not sure that anyone will even find me. I just need to write about this experience as I go.
I started the Dukan Diet on October 2nd, 2010. I had previously lost 25 pounds on the Atkins Diet, but got stuck on a plateau that lasted and lasted. I even gained back a few pounds, so something else had to be done!
I believe that this way of eating will be for the rest of my life, and I don't have a problem with it. The diet is very satisfying and I feel great at the same time. I am hoping that when I go for the next doctor's visit, there will be a much improved Becky there with great lab values to prove it! That will happen in December, so I have about a month more to work on getting more pounds off.
I want to lose 82 pounds, and so far have lost 37. In October alone after I started Dukan, I lost 15 pounds. A great way to start! I am very pleased and can't wait to see what I end up looking like when I reach my goal.
To God Be the Glory!
